The following text comes partly from 3 web sites I found on Guillaume Daoust. The most important is a web site on the Daoust Family created by Bob D'Aoust from Waterloo Ontario. He has been working for several years on the family genealogy and has told me his database so far has over 53,000 names and growing!
Guillaume was born sometime between 1645 and 1656 (Burial records say that he was 84 years of age, which gives the early birth year of 1645).  His father was Nicolas Daoust of the village of Sissonne and his mother, Jeanne Aubert was from nearby Montcornet.  These are both in the Diocese of Laon in the province of Picardie in northern France.  A recent article gives us much more on his ancestors in France!
This part of the Island of Montreal was prone to Indian attacks at the time.  In May 1687, the French declared war on the Iroquois.  There were many settlers killed during these times.  Near present day Baie d'Urfé, there was a squirmish in September of that year and Jean de la Londe, was killed.  Marie Madeleine was 15 years old.  The burial record shows the signatures of the curé and of Guillaume, as witness.
Marie Madeleine de la Londe and Guillaume were married when she was 14 and he was around 30-40 on February 18th 1686.  The marriage took place at the parish of Saints-Anges-Gardiens of Lachine.  The present day church is across the street from the Fur Trading museum in Lachine.
There is a replica of the first small church there. It is not the original site.  The first chapel was built within the walls of Fort Remy which was located further east in present day Lasalle (originally part of Lachine).  The ruins there of the second church are located in a city park, appropriately called "parc des Sts. Anges".
During these troubled times, settlers living on the western tip of the island took refuge with the nearby people of Lachine.  Squirmishes continued and on the nights of August 4th and 5th 1689, the Massacre of Lachine occurred. Many settlers and soldiers defending the fort were killed.  The numbers vary, depending on the source!  Some were taken captive and tortured to death.
In 1694, Guillaume's signature is on a document reporting the finding of the skeletons of some victims.  He is listed as cantor and verger of Saints Anges.  Marie and Guillaume were living in Lachine at the time of the massacre with the widow of Jean de la Londe, who was remarried to a Pierre Tabault. In 1691, Marie Madeleine gave birth to their first child, Marie on September 12th.  Sadly, she died eight years later.  Their first son, Guillaume was born in Lachine in 1694.
During the Iroquois troubles, the family moved to the east end of the island at Pointe-aux-Trembles. Their third child, Augustin was born here on February 12th 1697 as was their daughter Anne, on September 11th 1699.  There are no records of their presence in Lachine from April 28th 1696 until November 15th 1699.  From April 12th 1697 until September 23th 1699 many baptisms, marriages and deaths in the church records of  Pointe-aux-Trembles mention the presence of Guillaume Daoust in various capacities.  A treaty was signed with the Iroqouis in 1698 and Guillaume and his young family were able to return to the area of Lachine.  The civil records of the parish of Lachine from 1676 to 1702 are found in a book in the Montreal Archive.
When Guillaume and his family returned to the western end of the island, they appear to have settled on the land he had obtained in 1685.  The lot he had acquired from Jean Baptiste Migeon de Branssat in 1675 was sold to a Montreal innkeeper called Abraham Bouat on February 20th 1699 (in the document Guillaume is said to be residing in Pointe-aux-Trembles).  In all, Guillaume and Marie Magdelaine had eight surviving children who all lived in the area of Ile Perrot and the southwest end of the island of Montreal.  Most records of the families of Ile Perrot are found in the Parish of St Anne de Bellevue du Bout de l'ile (it was originally the parish of St. Louis).  This was a new parish that encompassed areas of Lachine, Ste Anne de Bellevue and Pointe Claire. The baptismal records for several of the children of Guillaume D'Aoust are found here.
Guillaume is listed as a habitant, among the first to grow wheat and share in a communal mill on Ile Perrot.  This is the windmill of Pointe du Moulin built by Joseph Trottier Desruisseaux, sieur of l'ile Perrot.
On March 5th 1710, Alexis Francois Daoust, the son of Guillaume and Marie Madeleine Lalonde was baptized in Ste. Anne de Bellevue. At the ceremony were several of the Trottier-Desruisseaux family.
Among them were the seigneur, Joseph Trottier Desruisseaux and his wife, Francoise Cuillerier (the daughter of Rene Cuillerier).  Joseph Trottier is a cousin of Marie Trottier, the wife of Louis Guillet dit St. Mars (grandparents on our mother's side!!)
Our Daoust ancestor died on March 8th 1729 and was buried a day later at the cemetery of St  Anne de Bellevue.  His wife, Marie Madelaine de Lalonde lived thirty more years before she passed away on January 1st 1761 at the age of 89.  She was buried on the 3rd. Their son, Guillaume inherited the family land.  He sold part of it to his brother, Louis, on March 21, 1738. The document states that the lot was in a state of abandonment.  Guillaume had acquired other pieces of land a few years earlier and I expect he was more concerned with his other properties.
For those who want to know more!!

LR = Lachine Civil Registry 1676 to 1707.  Incidentals:  From 1676 René Cuillerier is signing. Remy is priest.  In the beginning, Jean Fremont is curé and E. Guyotte is priest..  In 1680, Remy is curé.
The reasons why Guillaume chose to emigrate to New France are not known.  According to one document, he was a tailor by trade.  It is not known what year he arrived but on January 12th 1675, we find a notarized document signed by him with Benigne Basset of Montreal.  In this contract, Jean Baptiste Migeon de Branssat, a prominent judge and businessman, formed an association with Guillaume Daoust for three years. The purpose was to operate a furtrading post at the western end of the island of Montreal.  Jean Baptiste Migeon had about 200 arpents of land here, opposite the rapids of St Anne.  It was a prime spot for fur trading due to the required portage here. The civil authorities quickly intervened to stop such a business endeavor.  Their association was dissolved on June 24th of the same year. On the same day, the said Migeon sold Guillaume Daoust for 150 livres, 40 arpents (arpents = 1.25 English acres) of the 200 arpents that he already owned in the area.  On the 12th of February 1678, the said Migeon sold him land opposite the rapids of Deux Montagnes (2 riverfront arpents x 40 arpents) including the house (de pieux) for 135 pounds (it appears to be the same piece of land originally sold to him in '75).   On June 12th, of the same year, Guillaume was listed as having a concession of land in Montreal.  For him to already have his own land would presuppose he came from a well-to-do family in France.  Many of the early immigrants were hired hands or soldiers. Strangely he is not mentioned in the census of 1681.  He had land along Lake St. Louis at the time.  The parish records of Lachine mention his presence here on December 15th 1683.  On September 20th 1685, Guillaume obtained land  (lot #113) from the Sulpiciens, the seigneurs of the island of Montreal.  The lot was on Baie d'Urfé with on the east side, Pointe-du-rat-musqué (muskrat point) and on the west side, his neighbors were Jean de la Londe dit l'Esperance and his wife, Marie Barban.  He became good friends with this family.  On July 19th 1684, a promise to marry Marie Magdeleine their twelve-year-old daughter was notarized in Ile de Mont-Real.  At this time, he was already godfather to Jean de Lalonde's son who was called Guillaume.  Sieur Pierre Cavalier stood in proxy for Guillaume at the baptism since Guillaume was fighting the Iroquois.
